About The Role

We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Medical Review Support Specialist to join our Medical Review Services department. This remote position offers an excellent opportunity for individuals with healthcare administrative experience to contribute to critical case management functions. The role involves handling case intake, documentation, case assignment, and review processes, ensuring timely and accurate completion of review cases. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills, proficiency with healthcare documentation systems, and the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently. This position supports HQSI’s mission by facilitating smooth workflow operations, maintaining compliance, and providing exceptional service to internal teams and external clients.

Qualifications

  • Minimum High School Diploma or GED; some college or vocational training preferred
  • At least 3 years of experience in a healthcare office setting (e.g., health insurance, physician’s office, hospital, outpatient setting)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook), Adobe, and internet applications
  • Experience with project and document management software and databases
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and healthcare documentation processes
  • Understanding of HIPAA/HITECH compliance and confidentiality standards
  • Strong organizational, multitasking, and time management skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
  • Ability to work effectively in remote and office environments
  • Experience with customer service and internal/external communication issues

Responsibilities

  • Scan and log incoming paper charts; extract, transfer, and log electronic charts
  • Intake and convert submitted cases within the document management system, assessing documentation requirements and case type
  • Assign cases to Non-Physician Reviewers (NPRs), Physician Reviewers (PRs), and allied healthcare professionals
  • Monitor case progress and ensure adherence to task due dates
  • Draft and finalize determinations letters for review and approval
  • Track receipt and completion of Conflict of Interest statements from reviewers and healthcare professionals
  • Generate and evaluate reports related to workflow, case volumes, and resource availability
  • Proofread and format final determinations before submission for approval
  • Monitor multiple contract mailboxes and respond to inquiries promptly
  • Assist with credentialing activities and physician recruitment outreach as needed
  • Support internal team communication and documentation processes
