AI Intern – Summer 2026
United States – Remote | Internship
At Safal, AI and technology are not separate services – they are mission-advancing tools responsibly woven through everything we do. From turning disparate data sources into insight-rich visual dashboards, or responsible, outcome-driven technology solutions to building the first fully AI-integrated tech apprenticeship programs in the U.S., DOL-approved AI apprenticeship model we use technology to accelerate our clients’ success safely, transparently, and collaboratively at scale.
We're investing in AI as a force multiplier, both in how we deliver client work and, in the tools, and products we build internally. That is where you come in.
Job Description
Safal Partners is looking for an AI Engineering Intern to join us for the summer and help us push the frontier of what AI can do inside a consulting firm focused on public-sector impact. You'll work directly with senior leadership and consultants on real problems with real stakes. Depending on your interests and our needs, you may work on:
- Prototyping internal AI tools that streamline research, analysis, and writing for our consulting teams
- Building agentic workflows and integrations (Claude, MCP servers, retrieval systems) tailored to education and workforce data
- Applying LLMs to large unstructured datasets: survey responses, policy documents, program evaluations, to surface insights at a scale humans alone cannot reach
- Helping shape our internal AI strategy, evaluation frameworks, and responsible-use practices
- Exploring novel client-facing AI products in the education and workforce space
- Building and improving full-stack AI applications using Next.js, React, TypeScript, Python, and FastAPI
- Deploying and testing applications using Vercel for front-end applications and Railway for back-end services, APIs, and databases
- Developing dashboards, data upload workflows, report-generation surfaces, and user interfaces for AI-assisted analysis
- Integrating AI models with application workflows, including document parsing, structured extraction, summarization, classification, and insight generation
- Helping improve reusable platform capabilities such as authentication, role-based access, file storage, audit logging, and secure environment-variable management
What We're Looking For
- Currently pursuing a degree at a top-tier institution in Computer Science, EECS, AI, Data Science, or a related field (undergraduate, Master's, or MEng candidates welcome)
- Hands-on experience building with modern LLMs prompting, fine-tuning, RAG, agents, or tool use
- Comfort with Python and the modern AI/ML stack; experience with TypeScript, JavaScript, React, or Next.js is a strong plus
- Strong written communication; you can explain a technical idea to a non-technical client and write clean documentation
- Curiosity about education, workforce, and public-sector impact
- Initiative and ownership; we are a lean team and interns ship real work
Nice to Have
- Experience with LLM APIs or agentic systems, including Anthropic, OpenAI, Gemini, MCP, Google ADK, LangGraph, CrewAI, or similar tools
- Background in evals, prompt engineering, or AI safety
- Prior internship or research experience at an AI lab, startup, or applied-AI team
- Familiarity with education or workforce data
- Experience with Vercel, Railway, FastAPI, PostgreSQL, Redis, or cloud deployment workflows
- Experience with Next.js, React, TypeScript, Tailwind CSS, dashboards, or data visualization libraries
- Experience building secure application features such as authentication, role-based access, audit logging, or file upload/storage workflows
- Experience with document processing, including PDFs, Word documents, spreadsheets, HTML, or structured/unstructured text
- Familiarity with GitHub workflows, pull requests, staging/production environments, and collaborative software development
What You'll Get
- Direct mentorship from senior leaders across consulting, data, and engineering
- Exposure to how AI is reshaping a real industry and a voice in how we navigate it
- Competitive intern compensation
- A demonstrated path to full-time conversation for strong performers
