About the Elmira Aviators
The Elmira Aviators are a proud member of the NAHL, committed to developing student-athletes on and off the ice while providing a first-class junior hockey experience. The organization is seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Athletic Trainer to oversee the health, wellness, injury prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation of our players throughout the season.
Position Summary
The Athletic Trainer will be responsible for the day-to-day medical care of the Elmira Aviators players, including injury evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation, emergency response, and communication with physicians and healthcare providers. The successful candidate will play a vital role in ensuring players are physically prepared to compete at the highest level of junior hockey.
Primary Responsibilities
Player Care & Injury Management
- Evaluate and treat athletic injuries and illnesses.
- Develop and supervise rehabilitation programs.
- Provide preventative care, including taping, stretching, mobility, and recovery protocols.
- Monitor player wellness and readiness to compete.
- Coordinate referrals to physicians, specialists, and medical providers when necessary.
Team Operations
- Attend all practices, games, workouts, and team functions.
- Travel with the team for all road games and league events.
- Maintain injury reports and player medical records.
- Prepare and manage the team’s medical supplies and equipment inventory.
- Coordinate pre-season physicals and player medical clearances.
Emergency Response
- Serve as the primary emergency medical responder at team events.
- Maintain emergency action plans and concussion protocols.
- Ensure compliance with NAHL, USA Hockey, and local medical guidelines.
Communication
- Communicate regularly with coaches regarding player availability and return-to-play timelines.
- Work collaboratively with team physicians, strength coaches, and hockey operations staff.
- Educate players on injury prevention, nutrition, hydration, recovery, and overall wellness.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training, Sports Medicine, or related field.
- BOC Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC).
- Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification.
- Eligible for state licensure (if applicable).
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to work nights, weekends, and extensive travel schedules.
Preferred
- Master’s degree in Athletic Training or related field.
- Previous experience in hockey, junior hockey, collegiate athletics, or professional sports.
- Experience with concussion management and return-to-play protocols.
- Familiarity with strength and conditioning principles.
