THE POSITION
The Automotive Mechanic position with the Department of Transportation offers a chance to work with many types of vehicles and equipment. This role gives you the opportunity to build strong mechanical skills while supporting important transportation services. Each day brings new challenges that help you grow and gain confidence. DESCRIPTION OF WORK
This position focuses on skilled maintenance and repair work on a wide range of vehicles, construction equipment, and powered tools. You will help ensure that equipment remains safe, dependable, and ready for daily use. As an Automotive Mechanic, you will perform the following duties:
Vehicle Repair: Perform maintenance and repairs on cars, trucks, tractors, and construction equipment
System Service: Complete tune ups, mechanical diagnostics, tire changes, and system adjustments across many components
State Inspections: Conduct official safety and emissions inspections and complete all required documentation
Field Work: Carry out emergency road service and occasional repairs at field locations
Safety Practices: Follow proper safety procedures, maintain clean work spaces, and support injury prevention efforts
Equipment Records: Maintain accurate logs, reports, and equipment service histories
Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment
- Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday – Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
- Travel, overtime, and shift work required. Work hours subject to change based on seasonal requirements and operational needs.
Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $40,685.00 (before taxes).- You will receive further communication regarding this position via email. REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Four years of experience in the automotive mechanic trade; or completion of an approved apprenticeship; or
- Any combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledges, skills, and abilities.
Special Requirements:
- You must be in possession of a valid driver’s license which is not under suspension.
- You must be in possession of a valid Class 1 Inspection Mechanic certificate or equivalent that allows inspection for Class 1 vehicles.
Additional Requirements:
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
