Audio Video Specialists is a family-owned technology integration company based in Elgin, IL, serving the Fox Valley and greater Chicago suburbs since 2004. We design and install custom audio, video, smart home, and security systems for residential and commercial clients across Northwest Illinois and surrounding communities. Our work ranges from dedicated home theaters and whole-house audio to commercial conference rooms, outdoor entertainment systems, and smart home automation.

The Role
We’re looking for a skilled A/V Installation Technician who takes their craft seriously (but not themselves too seriously). You’ll be hands-on in the field — running cable, mounting and configuring equipment, and commissioning systems — while representing the Audio Video Specialists brand with professionalism on every job site.
If you’re the kind of person who re-levels a TV mount that was already perfectly level just because you know it wasn’t quite right, we need to talk.
What You’ll Do
- Install in-ceiling, in-wall, and outdoor speaker systems; distributed audio and home theater setups
- Mount and configure displays, projectors, and screens
- Run and terminate low-voltage cabling (HDMI, Cat6, speaker wire, fiber)
- Build and dress AV equipment racks that would make a Swiss watchmaker nod approvingly
- Configure and commission smart home automation, lighting control, and climate systems
- Install residential and commercial surveillance systems
- Install wiring infrastructures for various job scopes.
- Set up commercial AV systems including conference room displays, video conferencing, and sound masking
- Perform system walk-throughs and client training at project completion — yes, this includes explaining to someone’s dad how the remote works. Patience is a virtue.
What We’re Looking For
- 2+ years of experience in low-voltage, A/V, or smart home installation
- Working knowledge of audio/video systems, structured wiring, and control systems
- Familiarity with brands common in the custom integration space (Sonos, Lutron, Elan/NICE, RTI, BiAmp, Crestron, etc.) a strong plus
- Ability to read and follow system diagrams and installation drawings
- The kind of attention to detail that makes your cable runs look like they grew there naturally
- Excellent communication and client-facing skills — you’ll be in people’s homes, so being a human being helps
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
- Low-voltage license or CEDIA/ESC certification a plus, but not required
