This on-call role offers the opportunity to contribute to mission-critical engineering and defense-related projects through high-precision CAD design work. You will support specialized submarine communication and systems initiatives by translating engineering concepts into detailed 2D and 3D technical models. Working in a collaborative, technically driven environment, you will partner closely with engineers and stakeholders to refine designs, resolve technical challenges, and ensure manufacturability. The role requires strong autonomy, sound engineering judgment, and the ability to deliver accurate design outputs under general supervision. As an on-call contributor, you will engage in project-based assignments that demand flexibility, responsiveness, and attention to detail. This position is ideal for an experienced CAD professional seeking impactful, specialized work within complex technical systems.
Accountabilities
- Create detailed 2D and 3D CAD models of components, assemblies, and systems for engineering and manufacturing applications
- Develop technical drawings and documentation aligned with engineering standards and manufacturing requirements
- Apply geometric and dimensional constraints to ensure design accuracy, consistency, and manufacturability
- Collaborate with engineers and technical stakeholders to review, refine, and iterate design concepts
- Translate conceptual requirements into precise digital models using advanced CAD software tools
- Identify design challenges and proactively suggest improvements or alternative solutions
- Maintain strong communication with project teams to ensure alignment and timely delivery of design outputs
- Support submarine communication systems projects and other specialized engineering initiatives as assigned
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a technical field with 5+ years of experience, OR associate degree with 8+ years, OR high school diploma/GED with 11+ years of relevant experience
- Minimum of 3+ years of CAD and 3D design experience, preferably within submarine or defense-related systems
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor, and SolidWorks
- Experience working with model-based design tools and methodologies
- Strong ability to interpret engineering requirements and produce accurate technical drawings
- US citizenship with active Top Secret clearance required
- Ability to work independently while exercising sound engineering judgment under general supervision
- Strong collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively with engineers and multidisciplinary teams
- Detail-oriented mindset with a focus on precision, accuracy, and compliance with design standards
- Prior Department of Defense experience and project leadership exposure are preferred
