Position Title: Certified Peer Support Specialist
Job Classification: Full-Time
FLSA Position Type: Non-exempt, eligible for overtime
Job Grade: 2, Level 1
Reports to: Supportive Services Program Manager

Required Qualifications and Experience
1. Current valid Oregon driver’s license with clean DMV record for insurance on commercial auto policy.
2. Based on business necessity and the population we serve, if you have a substance use disorder (addiction) you must have at least two (2) years clean since your last use.
3. You must be able to successfully complete a UA and adhere to Rogue Retreat’s Drug & Alcohol policy.
4. One (1) year of Peer-Support Specialist or direct Case Management experience or a combination of employment and volunteer experience in a recovery community, outreach program, or social service agency may be considered.
5. Proficient computer skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Office andGoogle products

Education, License or Certification
1. Must have a High School Diploma or GED
2. Must have completed Fundamentals of Peer Support Specialist training.
3. Must be certified with the State of Oregon as a Traditional Health Worker. REQUIRED

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience as an employee or volunteer at a social service agency.
  • Completed other training that will be of benefit to participants, such as effective communication classes, crisis intervention training, ACEs, Trauma Informed Care training or any other training that contribute to the position.
  • Personal participation in programs intended to assist with homelessness, or recovery from addiction or managing mental health problems.
  • Ability to work independently when supervisor is not present.
  • Exhibit good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Exhibit the ability to work well with participants, staff, and volunteers.
  • Exhibit the ability to do advocacy work.
  • Exhibit problem solving skills in acute situations or long term problems affecting participants.

Essential Functions:

  • Meet regularly with each assigned participant completing a minimum of 30-hours of direct client contact time per week. (includes driving guests)
  • Assist participants with obtaining needed services from other organizations.
  • Assist participants with necessary paperwork required by Rogue Retreat or other service organizations.
  • Drive participants to access resources or run errands in company vehicle.
  • Provide personal encouragement and motivation to participants.
  • Create good working relationships with co-workers, external organizations, and participants.
  • Attend and participate in designated staff meetings.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions/Equipment
The physical environment may require the employee to work both inside in a temperature-controlled environment and outside in an environment with temperature extremes of hot and cold. Congregant shelter environments are, at times, noisy with people entering, exiting, and talking in an office or outdoor tent setting that can be noisy with frequent unexpected interruptions to conversations or work routines. The work environment requires the ability to handle numbers and data with accuracy in an environment that has changing priorities and disruptions throughout the day. The position utilizes a computer.
