At the Kentucky State Penitentiary, the mission is to promote safety for the citizens of the Commonwealth of Kentucky by operating an efficient adult correctional institution. Our main purpose is to provide a safe, secure, and humane environment for its residents and to prepare incarcerated felons for a successful reintegration into society using constructive classification, employment training programs, treatment services, and social programs.
The Classification and Treatment Officer is vital to this mission by performing duties in the evaluation, assessment, and counseling of inmates.
The responsibilities may include:
- Interview, evaluate, and assess inmates to identify behavioral patterns.
- Develop case history on inmates.
- Serve on committees to determine classification.
- Prepare reports to assist with classification.
- Provide daily counsel to inmates regarding the institution as well as personal or family matters.
- Respond to inmate requests and outside agencies.
