BP Builders is seeking an experienced Construction Estimator to join our growing team. The primary responsibility of this position is preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for commercial construction projects during the preconstruction phase. The ideal candidate will have strong estimating experience, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to interpret construction documents and develop comprehensive project budgets.
As business needs require, this position may also assist Project Managers with various project management duties, providing an opportunity for professional growth into an Assistant Project Manager role. Estimating will remain the primary focus of this position.
Essential ResponsibilitiesEstimating & Preconstruction
- Prepare complete and accurate cost estimates for commercial construction projects.
- Perform detailed quantity takeoffs from construction drawings and specifications.
- Develop project budgets and estimate summaries.
- Prepare scopes of work for subcontractors and suppliers.
- Solicit bids by distributing bid invitations and communicating project requirements.
- Attend pre-bid meetings and site visits as required.
- Review construction plans, specifications, and contract documents to identify project requirements.
- Analyze subcontractor and supplier proposals for completeness, scope accuracy, and pricing.
- Compare bids and identify scope gaps, exclusions, and potential cost-saving opportunities.
- Maintain and update unit cost databases and historical pricing information.
- Assemble final bid packages, ensuring all required forms and supporting documentation are complete and submitted by the bid deadline.
- Communicate with owners, architects, engineers, subcontractors, and suppliers throughout the bidding process.
- Assist in preparing value engineering options when appropriate.
Assistant Project Management Support (As Needed)
- Assist Project Managers with project startup activities.
- Help prepare subcontract agreements and purchase orders.
- Track project documentation, submittals, RFIs, and change orders.
- Assist with project scheduling and coordination.
- Monitor project budgets and job cost information.
- Support communication between project teams, subcontractors, and clients.
- Perform additional project management duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 3 years of commercial construction estimating experience preferred.
- Experience estimating commercial, industrial, or institutional construction projects.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and construction documents.
- Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, and building systems.
- Experience preparing quantity takeoffs and detailed cost estimates.
- Excellent mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple estimates and deadlines simultaneously.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Experience with estimating software is preferred.
- Experience with Procore, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Project is a plus.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
Preferred Education
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field preferred.
