*** THIS IS A COMMISSIONED BASED POSITION*** We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Referral Specialist to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in managing patient referrals, ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations, and maintaining accurate medical records. This position requires strong communication skills and a thorough understanding of medical terminology, coding systems, and insurance verification processes.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with healthcare providers, clinics, hospitals, and community organizations to generate patient referrals.
- Negotiate and establish referral agreements and service contracts with external providers and clinics.
- Ensure contracts comply with healthcare regulations and internal policies.
- Track contract expirations, renewals, and compliance requirements.
- Assess patient needs and coordinate appropriate referrals to external clinics, specialists, or support services.
- Maintain a network of trusted referral partners across medical, behavioral, and social services.
- Ensure timely and accurate transfer of patient records, authorizations, and relevant documentation.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all referrals and contractual agreements.
- Ensure HIPAA compliance and patient confidentiality in all referral activities.
- Report referral data, trends, and performance metrics to management.
- Represent the organization at community events, health fairs, and networking opportunities to promote referral partnerships.
- Distribute educational and promotional materials to potential referral sources.
- Work closely with intake, case management, and clinical staff to understand patient needs and referral options.
- Provide feedback to internal teams on referral patterns and potential service gaps.
- Act as a liaison to resolve issues or disputes between referred patients and external providers.
- Ensure quality assurance in referral outcomes and patient satisfaction.
- Regularly visit partner businesses, clinics, and facilities to promote services and educate staff on the referral process.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for referral sources, ensuring seamless communication and follow-up.
Experience
- Previous experience in a medical office setting is preferred, with a strong understanding of managed care practices.
- Familiarity with medical terminology, medical coding (CPT, ICD-9, ICD-10), and insurance verification processes is essential.
- Experience in dental offices is a plus but not required.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills are necessary for maintaining accurate records and managing multiple tasks effectively.
