Culinary Gardener — Mountain Top Winery Estate, St. Helena, CA
Are you the kind of gardener who gets up early because you want to see how the garden’s doing? Someone who takes real pride in growing food that ends up on someone’s plate the same week it left the ground? We want to talk to you.
We’re looking for a hardworking, hands-on Culinary Gardener to run our approximately 1/3-acre CCOF-certified organic garden, perched on a mountain top estate just outside St. Helena, bordering our vineyards. This isn’t a quiet backyard plot — it’s a productive, high-output garden growing vegetables, small fruits, fruit trees, microgreens, and cut flowers that supply our winery’s tasting room and two acclaimed restaurants in San Francisco and Sausalito.
What you’ll own:
· Full responsibility for supplying the fresh produce, microgreens, and cut flowers that our chef or owners requests to our venues
· Regular, hands-on communication with chefs to plan crops, plan microgreens plantings, and set harvest schedules that keep the kitchens running
· Close coordination with our delivery driver, who transports fresh harvests to the city 1–2 times a week
· Maintaining CCOF organic standards and established SOPs, and partnering with ownership on our annual organic inspection
· Full garden maintenance: crop rotation, orchard and small fruit care, and precise recordkeeping
· Occasionally hiring and managing contractors, and coordinating with the vineyard manager on transporting estate products to our Napa warehouse
What you bring:
· At least a year of hands-on experience with organic growing methods, crop planning and rotation, orchard/small fruit production, and microgreens
· Sharp recordkeeping habits — you know that good data makes for a good garden
· Clean driving record (you’ll drive a company vehicle weekly to deliver harvests to our Napa warehouse)
· Clear, frequent communicator — you’ll be in regular contact with chefs, delivery drivers, and the vineyard team
· CCOF familiarity is a strong plus, but a genuine passion for organic growing matters more
The details:
This is a part-time role that runs close to full-time during the growing season and settles to around 30 hours/week in the slower months. Salary is commensurate with experience. Housing is not provided.
