Duties
- Prepare treatment rooms by sterilizing instruments, setting up dental tools, and ensuring all equipment is functioning properly in accordance with infection control protocols.
- Assist dentists during various procedures such as restorations, extractions, endodontics, prosthodontics, and pediatric dentistry, providing support with four-handed dentistry techniques.
- Take and develop dental X-rays and other medical imaging, including 3D scans, ensuring high-quality images for accurate diagnosis.
- Manage patient records using electronic medical record (EMR) systems like Dentrix or Eaglesoft while maintaining HIPAA compliance to protect patient confidentiality.
- Monitor vital signs and assist in medical documentation for patients requiring medical history updates or special care considerations.
- Educate patients on oral health practices, post-treatment care, and dental terminology to foster understanding and compliance.
- Support administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments, answering phones as a dental receptionist, and managing medical coding for billing purposes.
Qualifications
- Proven experience working as a Dental Assistant in a busy dental clinic environment with knowledge of infection control practices and aseptic techniques.
- Proficiency in EMR systems such as Dentrix or Eaglesoft; familiarity with Epic is a plus.
- Strong understanding of dental terminology, anatomy knowledge, and medical terminology relevant to dentistry.
- Ability to perform X-ray procedures safely while adhering to radiation safety standards.
- Knowledge of pediatric dentistry practices and experience assisting with pediatric patients is highly desirable.
- Certification in dental assisting or related field; additional certifications in medical coding or medical imaging are advantageous.
- Excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively with team members including dental receptionists, hygienists, specialists in endodontics or prosthodontics, and other healthcare professionals. Pay: $25.46 – $30.67 per hour
