DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position focuses on maintaining and repairing many types of vehicles and construction equipment. It plays an important role in keeping equipment safe and ready for use. As a Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic, you will perform the following duties:


  • Preventative Maintenance:
    Perform scheduled maintenance on vehicles, equipment, and parts to keep systems in safe working order

  • Mechanical Repairs:
    Repair and overhaul cars, trucks, tractors, and construction equipment, including transmissions, clutches, brakes, shock absorbers, and engine sub-assemblies

  • Diagnostics And Testing:
    Use diagnostic equipment to identify problems, road test vehicles, and test alternators and electrical components

  • State Inspections:
    Conduct safety and emissions inspections, complete inspection records, and affix stickers in line with specifications

  • Field Adjustments:
    Make routine adjustments in the field to permit safe operation and minimize wear

  • Safety And Housekeeping:
    Maintain a clean, safe work area, follow safety procedures, use protective gear, and report injuries and hazards

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday – Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.

  • Telework:
    You will not have the option to telework in this position.

  • Salary:
    Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $55,492.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
  • Successful completion of the commonwealth’s Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic Trainee program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Two years of journey level mechanic experience in the diagnosis and repair of automobiles, heavy trucks, or construction equipment, which includes one year of experience in the diagnosis and repair of diesel vehicles or equipment; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Special Requirements:
  • Must possess a valid Pennsylvania Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License.
  • This position requires employees to possess a valid Pennsylvania Class 7 Inspection Mechanic Certification on the first day of employment.

Additional Requirements:
  • This position requires valid Medical Examiner’s Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations at the time of application.
  • This position requires employees to obtain an active certification issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation in the operation of heavy trucks and loaders within the probationary period.
  • This position is required to obtain an active Tank Vehicle Endorsement (N) during the probationary period.
  • This position is subject to Drug and Alcohol testing in accordance with Federal Regulations.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
