Job Summary

PRISA Hospitality is seeking a hands-on, results-driven Engineering Manager to lead the Engineering Department during the pre-opening and ongoing operations of the dual-branded Hampton by Hilton San Juan and Homewood Suites by Hilton San Juan.

This position is responsible for maintaining the hotel’s physical assets, building systems, equipment, and grounds while ensuring a safe, efficient, and well-maintained environment for guests and associates.

The Engineering Manager partners closely with the General Manager and Director of Operations to oversee preventive maintenance, capital projects, contractor management, life safety systems, and operational readiness while ensuring compliance with Hilton brand standards and ownership expectations.

As a key member of the hotel’s leadership team, this role will play a critical part in the successful opening of the hotel by establishing engineering operations, implementing preventive maintenance programs, supporting warranty management, and building a high-performing engineering team.

Principal Responsibilities:

Engineering Operations

· Lead the daily operation of the Engineering Department, providing supervision and support for maintenance teams

· Ensure all building systems, guestrooms, public areas, mechanical equipment, life safety systems, and back-of-house areas are maintained in excellent operating condition.

· Assign, prioritize, and monitor daily work orders while ensuring timely completion and effective communication with operating departments.

· Maintain the hotel’s Building Management System (BMS), energy management systems, and engineering records to maximize operational efficiency.

· Conduct regular inspections of guestrooms, public areas, mechanical rooms, rooftops, exterior spaces, and critical building systems to identify maintenance needs and ensure Hilton brand standards.

Preventive Maintenance & Asset Management

· Develop, implement, and oversee preventive maintenance programs for guestrooms, public areas, mechanical equipment, life safety systems, elevators, kitchen equipment, pools, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and other building assets.

· Establish preventive maintenance schedules, engineering SOPs, equipment inventories, and warranty tracking programs during the pre-opening phase.

· Monitor equipment performance and recommend repairs, replacements, and capital improvement projects to protect the long-term value of the asset.

· Maintain engineering inventories, tools, spare parts, and maintenance supplies while ensuring appropriate purchasing and inventory controls.

Pre-Opening & Capital Projects

· Support all engineering pre-opening activities, including building turnover, punch list completion, equipment commissioning, operational testing, warranty documentation, and acceptance of building systems.

· Coordinate with ownership, contractors, consultants, Hilton representatives, and project teams to ensure all engineering systems are fully operational before opening.

· Assist with capital improvement planning, contractor oversight, and project execution while ensuring work is completed safely, on schedule, and according to specifications.

· Supervise outside contractors and vendors, ensuring work quality, compliance with safety standards, and proper restoration of work areas.

Safety, Compliance & Risk Management

· Ensure compliance with Hilton brand standards, OSHA requirements, Puerto Rico regulations, environmental requirements, and all life safety standards.

· Maintain fire alarm, sprinkler, emergency power, elevator, pool, water treatment, and other critical life safety systems in accordance with applicable regulations.

· Lead emergency response efforts involving power outages, hurricanes, flooding, equipment failures, and other operational emergencies.

· Maintain accurate engineering records, maintenance logs, inspection reports, permits, and regulatory documentation.

Financial & Administrative Responsibilities

· Prepare departmental budgets, monitor engineering expenses, and manage labor productivity while maintaining cost-effective operations.

· Maintain monthly repair and maintenance expenditure reports, project tracking logs, and departmental performance updates.

· Process purchase requests, obtain vendor quotations, negotiate service agreements, and support capital expenditure planning.

· Identify opportunities to improve energy efficiency, reduce utility consumption, and maximize equipment life.

Leadership & Team Development

· Recruit, coach, train, and develop a high-performing Engineering team committed to safety, accountability, and service excellence.

· Conduct departmental meetings, technical training, equipment certifications, and ongoing development for engineering associates.

· Foster collaboration with Front Office, Housekeeping, Food & Beverage, and other departments to ensure efficient hotel operations.

· Lead by example through professionalism, integrity, responsiveness, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.

Additional Responsibilities

· Support the successful opening and ongoing operation of the dual-branded hotel by ensuring engineering readiness and operational excellence.

· Collaborate with PRISA leadership, ownership, Hilton representatives, and cross-functional teams to achieve company objectives.

· Champion sustainability initiatives, energy conservation programs, and operational improvements that enhance efficiency and protect the hotel’s assets.

· Perform other duties and special projects as assigned by the General Manager or corporate leadership.

Required Qualifications

· Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Facilities Management, Construction Management, Technical Studies, or a related field preferred.

· Technical school diploma or professional certifications in HVAC, Electrical, Mechanical, Plumbing, or Refrigeration are highly desirable.

· Minimum of five (5) years of progressive engineering or maintenance leadership experience within a hotel, resort, commercial building, or similar environment.

· Strong knowledge of HVAC, refrigeration, electrical, plumbing, kitchen equipment, mechanical systems, life safety systems, and preventive maintenance programs.

· Experience managing departmental budgets, purchasing, contractor relationships, inventory, and capital projects.

· Hilton brand experience preferred; familiarity with Hilton engineering systems and HOTSOS is a plus.

· Fully bilingual in English and Spanish.

· Proficiency in Microsoft Office and computerized maintenance programs.

· Flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and emergency situations.
