Position Summary
The Sales Counter Representative in our Powell’s Point, NC location is responsible for providing exceptional customer service and sales support to contractors, landscapers, and other wholesale customers. This position assists customers with product selection, order processing, inventory inquiries, and order fulfillment while ensuring accurate transactions and maintaining a professional and organized sales counter environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Greet customers promptly and provide friendly, knowledgeable service.
- Assist customers in selecting plants, landscape materials, hardscape products, and related supplies to meet their project needs.
- Process sales transactions accurately using the point-of-sale (POS) system.
- Prepare customer quotes, invoices, and sales orders.
- Answer incoming phone calls and respond to customer inquiries regarding products, pricing, availability, and delivery schedules.
- Coordinate with main nursery and yard personnel to ensure timely order fulfillment.
- Maintain current knowledge of products, promotions, and pricing.
- Resolve customer concerns and escalate issues as needed.
- Monitor inventory levels and communicate stock discrepancies to management.
- Assist with receiving, stocking, merchandising, and organizing products.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and professional sales area.
- Support outside sales representatives by providing customer and order information.
- Follow company policies, safety regulations, and operational procedures.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
QualificationsEducation and Experience
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Previous customer service, retail sales, distribution, nursery, landscape, or building supply experience preferred.
- Experience working with POS systems and basic computer applications preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong customer service and relationship-building skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to multitask and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Basic math skills and attention to detail.
- Knowledge of landscape, nursery, irrigation, or hardscape products is preferred.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and sales software systems.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds occasionally.
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to bend, stoop, reach, and perform repetitive movements.
Work Environment
- Distribution center, warehouse, yard, and office environments. Frequent interaction with customers, vendors, and employees.
- May require occasional overtime, weekend, or seasonal hours based on business needs.
- Must have reliable transportation.
- Training will take place in our Smithfield, VA location.
- Work hours 7:30am – 4:30pm Monday – Friday.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $13.00 – $16.00 per hour
