About The Role
We are seeking a talented and passionate Graphic Designer I to join our dynamic ministry team. In this role, you will contribute to our mission by utilizing current and trending design concepts, technologies, and tools to create compelling visual content that aligns with our brand and outreach efforts. Your work will support various projects, including digital assets, print materials, campaigns, and other communication tools aimed at engaging our current and prospective partners, churches, leaders, and children. Collaboration is key; you will work closely with freelancers, vendors, and internal teams to prepare deliverables that effectively communicate our message and inspire action. The position offers a primarily remote work environment with some travel requirements for organizational meetings, conferences, and photoshoots, primarily in St. Charles, IL, or Nashville, TN. The role provides an opportunity to combine creative talents with a heart for ministry, making a meaningful impact on children’s lives worldwide.
Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of demonstrated experience in graphic design or visual communications
- Working knowledge of design principles, typography, color theory, layout, and composition
- Proficiency in Mac and Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Lightroom)
- Experience with image editing, formatting, and preparing files for print and digital use
- Ability to create and organize production-ready files, including PDFs
- Experience working with external vendors and printers, including preflight checks
- Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communications, or related field preferred but not mandatory
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects effectively
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Understanding of printing processes and digital asset management
- Knowledge of Christian principles and familiarity with Awana programs is a plus
- Eligibility to work in the United States; visa sponsorship is not available
- Must submit a portfolio or link to work with application
Responsibilities
- Contribute to the graphic design process by creating layouts, icons, digital assets, and photo assets based on project needs
- Execute design work following established templates, style guides, and brand standards
- Provide basic image editing, formatting, and file preparation for print and digital platforms
- Assist in building out campaign concepts across multiple media channels in collaboration with other departments
- Prepare and refine design files for internal review, ensuring accuracy and adherence to specifications
- Create and organize production-ready files, including PDFs for review and printing
- Identify potential design or production issues and communicate effectively with senior team members
- Support assigned projects by adhering to development timelines and completing tasks efficiently
- Maintain organized design assets, including fonts, images, logos, and working files
- Participate in creative critiques, brainstorming sessions, and team meetings to foster innovative ideas
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support ministry initiatives and communication needs
- Support and uphold the cultural values of Awana in all internal and external communications
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support the ministry’s mission and operations
