Overview
Heavy Mobile Mechanic – Vancouver, WA Jobs in Vancouver, WA at FleetNation.com
Heavy Mobile Mechanic Wanted. Brand New Truck. Clear Path Up.
Fleet Nation runs 24/7 heavy-duty commercial towing and mobile repair across the I-5 corridor. Vancouver is one of our Pacific Northwest service hubs, covering the Portland metro freight loop where trucks roll day and night.
We’re hiring a heavy-duty mobile mechanic to run a brand new fully equipped service truck out of our Vancouver yard. You’ll be diagnosing and repairing class 7 and 8 trucks and trailers at customer terminals and roadside breakdowns. Every call backed by a master tech on the phone if you need a second set of eyes.
This is not just a wrench job. We’re looking for someone who wants to grow.
The Path
Fleet Nation runs on people who build territory. We don’t promote on tenure, we promote on results, and the path is written down so you know exactly what you’re working toward.
- Junior Mobile Mechanic. Starting position. Learn our systems, establish presence in the territory, and start building customer relationships.
- Mobile Mechanic. Full mechanic duties after a clean probation. Active customer acquisition. Building a book of recurring accounts.
- Lead Mechanic. Once your territory has earned a second truck. You interview the next hire, lead onboarding, and coordinate dispatch across both trucks.
- Area Manager. Salaried role with dispatch authority, hire/fire input, and light P&L responsibility for the territory. You still spend significant time on the wrench. You earn a percentage of territory margin and a trail on accounts you originated.
- Regional Manager. Off the wrench. Full P&L authority for a region with multiple trucks. Hire/fire authority. Strategic planning for regional expansion.
Each level has clearly defined triggers. Hit them, and leadership reviews you for advancement on a quarterly cadence. We commit promotion criteria to writing because we don’t believe in moving the goalposts.
Why Fleet Nation
- Brand new service truck. Not a hand-me-down with 200K miles and a tired air compressor.
- Master tech support on every call. You’re never solo on a tough diagnosis.
- Guaranteed weekly hours. Steady, year-round volume from fleet contracts. No feast or famine.
- Customer Acquisition Incentive Plan active from day one. The territory you build pays you back.
- We pay bi-weekly. On time, every time.
- Real growth path with written triggers. No "we’ll see how it goes."
What You’ll Do
- Respond to roadside breakdowns and on-site repairs for commercial trucks and trailers
- Diagnose and repair diesel engines, air brake systems, electrical, charging, cooling, and aftertreatment
- Handle DOT inspections, PMs, tire service, jump starts, and lockouts
- Document jobs cleanly with photos and notes for billing and customer follow-up
- Communicate directly with dispatch and the customer on ETA and scope
- Build customer relationships in the territory. Reliability and good work are how the route grows.
What We’re Looking For
We want someone intelligent and hungry. The mechanics who do well at Fleet Nation are the ones who treat the territory like their own business.
- 2+ years of heavy-duty diesel experience (class 7/8 trucks, trailers, or yard equipment)
- Clean driving record
- Sharp diagnostic instincts and the curiosity to learn newer aftertreatment systems
- Comfortable working independently and making the right call in the field
- Strong communicator. You’re the face of Fleet Nation to every customer you meet.
- Reliable. If you say you’ll roll, you roll.
- Ambitious. If you’re looking for a paycheck and an exit at 5 PM, this isn’t the seat.
Nice to Have (Not Required)
- Class A or B CDL
- Air brake / DOT inspector certification
- ASE T-series certifications
- Prior mobile or roadside experience
The Schedule, Honestly
You’re on-call 5 days a week and carry the phone for your shift block, with guaranteed weekly hours. On your 2 off days, you’re not chained to the phone, but if you choose to accept a call you get paid premium rates with a minimum per call. Pay is bi-weekly. If you’ve worked at a fleet shop or roadside outfit before, you already know the rhythm.
Location
Vancouver sits at the top of the I-5 corridor where Pacific Northwest freight crosses the Columbia. I-5, I-205, and SR-14 all converge here, plus the Port of Vancouver, the rail yards, and a steady flow of trucks running between Seattle, Portland, and points south. That means consistent call volume year-round and a mix of work that keeps the job interesting.
