IT & Security Lead Jobs in United States at The Uncommon Business

Title: IT & Security Lead

Company: The Uncommon Business

Location: United States

📍 Security & IT Lead | Remote (Full-Time, W2) | $115K–$130K

We've shipped 10+ internal tools fast. Now we need someone to make sure none of them become the reason we end up in the news.

The Uncommon Business is hiring our first dedicated Security & IT owner — someone who finds the gap before anyone else does and closes it, not someone who waits for a ticket.

If you've ever found a hard-coded API key in production and fixed it before it became a headline — keep reading.

What you'd actually be doing:

🔹 Auditing 10+ internally-built tools handling real customer and student data — and having the authority to stop a launch until a security issue is fixed

🔹 Owning how personal data flows through our AI tools, LLMs, and automations — not just devices and networks

🔹 Rolling out and maintaining 2FA, password management, and access reviews across a team of nearly 30

🔹 Running same-day onboarding (fully equipped in 4 business hours) and same-day offboarding (access and devices revoked, no exceptions)

🔹 Owning IT support for a remote team — fast fixes, no lectures, no "have you tried turning it off and on again"

This is for you if:

✅ You have 5+ years in cybersecurity or IT ops, including 2+ years owning security for a team

✅ You can read code — Python, JavaScript, SQL, API integrations — well enough to audit tools built fast and tell a build team exactly what to fix

✅ You think about AI and application security, not just device-level security

✅ You've rolled out 2FA, password managers, and access reviews before and treated the gap as your problem before it became an incident

✅ You document everything, so the company is never one person away from being locked out

This is not for you if:

❌ You want to wait for tickets instead of finding problems first

❌ You've only worked network/device security and haven't touched AI or application-layer risk

❌ You're looking for a slow-moving, low-accountability IT role

The first few months:

full audit of every internal tool

2FA and password manager rolled out company-wide

and a real asset inventory that actually tracks who has what.

We're profitable, EOS-driven, and we promote on impact, not tenure.

Twice a year we run championship-season surge cycles with extra hours and weekend availability.

The rest of the time, it's sustainable work building the systems that make the next surge easier.

If closing the gap before it becomes a crisis sounds like the job you were built for — apply below. 👇
