Specimen Accessioner/Processor (Laboratory Specimen Handling)

The position focus is on delivery organization, sample sorting, data entry, and specimen preparation. The accessioner will work in a fast-paced environment where attention to detail and knowledge of standard operating procedures is vital. This position is for full-time Monday – Friday day shift with rotating weekends and overtime as needed. Benefits included with full time positions (medical, dental, vision, PTO, & 401k).

Job Duties/Responsibilities:
- Unpack, organize, and deliver specimens to the appropriate area
- Open specimens and pour off to prepare specimens for analysis and testing
- Verify patient demographic information matches the test requisition form submitted
- Data entry of patient information into the computer system for tracking purposes
- Disposal of aged specimens
- Comfortable handling human biological specimens including blood, urine and saliva samples
- Sanitizing work areas
- Properly prepare and store excess specimen samples
- Resolve and document any problem specimens
- Comply with applicable laws, regulations, and company policies
- Use effective written and verbal communication skills
- Perform QLabs’ general customer service duties, including phone inquiries, patient/client encounters, and interfacing with referring provider staff and personnel
Requirements:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Proficient computer and typing skills
- Ability to lift up to 30lbs, work in protective equipment and sit/stand for long periods of time
- Strong eye hand coordination in order to accurately identify specimens by touch and sight
- Ability to work both independently and in a team environment
- High level of attention to detail with the ability to problem solve
- Strong communication skills; both written and verbal
- Ability to work overtime when needed
- No relevant experience is required but previous medical or production experience is preferred
- Ability to read and fully understand laboratory standard operating procedures
- Must have a high attention to detail, be a self-motivator and be highly organized
