Role Description The Learning & Development Specialist is responsible for designing, coordinating, and continuously improving employee learning and development programs that support onboarding, employee growth, and career development across Edwards Federal Credit Union.
This position owns the employee onboarding program, learning pathways, product knowledge resources, and learning administration while partnering with department leaders and subject matter experts to coordinate effective technical training and employee development. The Learning & Development Specialist develops learning resources, tracks employee progress, and recommends innovative learning solutions—including technology and artificial intelligence (AI)—to enhance the employee learning experience and support organizational success.
Responsibilities
Employee Onboarding & New Hire Development
- Coordinate and administer employee onboarding program.
- Coordinate new hire orientation and onboarding activities.
- Develop and maintain role-specific onboarding plans and learning pathways.
- Track employee progress through 30-, 60-, and 90-day onboarding milestones.
- Conduct onboarding check-ins with employees and managers to identify learning needs and support successful integration.
- Ensure required onboarding activities, certifications, and learning milestones are completed.
- Provide managers with onboarding progress updates and recommendations.
Technical Training & Trainer Development
- Partner with department leaders and subject matter experts to assess learning needs and coordinate role-specific technical training programs.
- Collaborate with subject matter experts to develop structured learning paths, competency checklists, and training resources for operational roles.
- Ensure technical training content remains current by coordinating regular reviews with department leaders following product, process, system, or regulatory changes.
- Develop and maintain trainer resources, facilitator guides, competency evaluation tools, and train-the-trainer programs that equip managers and subject matter experts to deliver consistent, effective technical training.
- Monitor employee progress through technical training programs and communicate development milestones and learning needs with managers.
- Coordinate training schedules and learning activities to ensure employees receive timely, consistent, and effective technical training.
Product Knowledge & Learning Resources
- Coordinate the development and maintenance of product knowledge resources, job aids, learning guides, reference materials, and internal knowledge resources.
- Collaborate with subject matter experts to translate complex products, processes, and procedures into engaging, accessible learning content.
- Maintain centralized learning resources that ensure employees have access to current, accurate, and easy-to-use information.
- Utilize learning technologies, artificial intelligence (AI), and other digital tools to efficiently develop, organize, update, and enhance learning materials, product knowledge resources, and employee development content.
- Evaluate learning and development needs and recommend the most effective delivery approach, including internally developed resources, subject matter expert-led instruction, third-party vendors, eLearning platforms, artificial intelligence tools, and other learning technologies.
Learning Programs & Employee Development
- Develop and maintain learning pathways that support employee success and internal career progression.
- Coordinate employee development initiatives, including Individual Development Plans (IDPs), cross-training opportunities, and career development resources.
- Develop and maintain employee skills inventories and competency tracking tools.
- Partner with department leaders to identify learning and development needs and recommend effective learning solutions.
- Monitor employee development progress and recommend additional learning opportunities when appropriate.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Organizational Development, Education, Business Administration, Communications, Instructional Design, or a related field preferred.
- Three to five years of experience designing, coordinating, or delivering employee onboarding, learning programs, technical training, instructional design, talent development, or related human resources initiatives.
- Experience developing learning content, onboarding programs, job aids, technical documentation, or employee development resources.
- Experience partnering with subject matter experts to develop learning materials, technical training, or instructional resources preferred.
- Experience administering learning management systems or employee development programs preferred.
- Financial institution or credit union experience preferred but not required.
Location: Palmdale, CA (hybrid work available after 90 days)
Pay range: $27.95/hr – $32.61/hr
