About The Role
The Junior Machine Learning Engineer role at Rolls-Royce offers an exciting opportunity for individuals passionate about AI, machine learning, and data science to contribute to cutting-edge projects. Based in Indianapolis, IN, with a hybrid work schedule requiring a minimum of three days onsite, this position involves working closely with multidisciplinary teams to develop and deploy intelligent tools that enhance the performance and maintenance of Rolls-Royce products. The successful candidate will analyze large datasets from engine sensors, test rigs, and fleet operations, and build machine learning models aimed at anomaly detection, predictive maintenance, and knowledge retrieval. Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Chemistry, Computer Science, Information Technology, Mathematics, or Physics
- Master's degree in Engineering, Chemistry, Computer Science, Information Technology, Mathematics, or Physics (preferred)
- PhD in relevant fields (preferred)
- U.S. Citizenship is mandatory for consideration
- 1+ years of experience in machine learning, including internships (preferred)
- Interest or experience in modern software development methodologies and programming languages
- Knowledge or interest in surrogate modeling, Generative AI, or Agentic AI
- Strong systems thinking, communication, time management, and collaboration skills
- Ability to work across disciplines with engineers and support teams outside of data or AI specialties
- Demonstrated enthusiasm for problem-solving and adapting to evolving objectives
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with IT and engineering teams to identify opportunities for digital technology applications that deliver maximum impact and value
- Understand, clean, and analyze large datasets from engine sensors, test rigs, and operational fleets
- Develop, train, and validate machine learning models for tasks such as anomaly detection, predictive maintenance, and knowledge retrieval
- Document all work thoroughly, ensuring clarity and reproducibility of models and analyses
- Present findings and insights effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences
- Contribute to continuous improvement of machine learning workflows and integration into existing systems
