Job Summary:
The purpose of this job is to provide skilled HVAC services to install, modify, maintain, and repair mechanical systems in school facilities.
Essential Duties
- Performs maintenance and repair work on school buildings, facilities, and structures; completes work and ensures safety, aesthetics, proper functioning and operations, and compliance with applicable codes, standards, policies, and practices.
- Installs, maintains, and repairs HVAC systems in buildings, including boilers, chillers, cooling towers, package units, split systems and heat pumps. Repairs and maintains the ductwork system.
- Inspects, troubleshoots, assembles, installs, connects, repairs, adjusts, and tests a variety of HVAC systems.
- Monitors building automation systems and makes necessary adjustments to improve HVAC performance. Determines areas where future repairs, replacement, or adjustments are necessary
- Performs preventive maintenance tests to ensure the proper operation of HVAC systems. Evaluates equipment and building systems and ensures that systems are operating correctly. Monitors space temperatures and/or humidity levels.
- Operates various types of hand tools, power equipment, and machinery in the performance of varied skilled trades work. Maintains and performs preventive maintenance on tools and equipment. Maintains and procures an appropriate inventory of supplies to ensure continuity of service.
- Performs other repair and maintenance tasks as directed to support the overall needs of the Maintenance Department. Utilizes a work order management system. Responds to emergency calls.
Minimum Education and Experience Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED equivalent and two (2) years of advanced skilled trades experience required.
Master or Journeyman’s license preferred (or ability to obtain within 12 months of hire).
EPA approved refrigerant certification, ability to interpret blueprints and equipment schematics, electrical license and expereince perfered.
Must be able to work independently and with a team.
Physical Demands
Performs medium to heavy work that involves walking, standing, kneeling, bending, crawling, and climbing ladders or scaffolding virtually all of the time. Work involves moderate exposure to unusual elements such as extreme temperatures, dirt, fumes, Unpleasant odors, gasses, electric currents, moving mechanical parts, and/or loud noises. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or considerable skill, adeptness and speed in the use of the fingers, hands or limbs in tasks involving close tolerances or limits of accuracy. Must be able to see color and discern color-coded wiring.
