We are seeking a motivated Medical Collections Specialist to join our team in Palm Springs, FL. If you have experience working in the behavioral health industry and enjoy problem-solving, communicating with insurance companies, and helping healthcare organizations succeed, we’d love to hear from you.
Previous medical collections experience is a plus but not required. We are happy to train the right candidate who has behavioral health industry experience and is eager to learn the revenue cycle process.
What You’ll Do
- Follow up with commercial insurance companies regarding unpaid, underpaid, or denied behavioral health claims.
- Research outstanding claims and identify barriers to payment.
- Work directly with insurance representatives to resolve claim issues and obtain timely reimbursement.
- Review Explanation of Benefits (EOBs) and remittance advice.
- Submit appeals, corrected claims, and supporting documentation when appropriate.
- Document all collection activity thoroughly within the billing system.
- Maintain organized accounts and prioritize follow-up efforts to maximize collections.
- Collaborate with billing, claims, credentialing, and management teams to resolve complex account issues.
- Stay current on payer guidelines, reimbursement policies, and behavioral health billing practices.
- Meet productivity and quality standards while maintaining exceptional attention to detail.
Qualifications
Required:
- Experience working in the behavioral health industry (substance use disorder, mental health, psychiatric, or addiction treatment).
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Strong organizational and time management abilities.
- Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment.
- Basic computer proficiency and the ability to learn new software quickly.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
Preferred:
- Previous medical collections experience.
- Experience with medical billing, insurance follow-up, claims resolution, or revenue cycle management.
- Knowledge of behavioral health insurance benefits and reimbursement processes.
- Familiarity with commercial insurance carriers and payer portals.
- Experience with EHR or medical billing software.

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $18.00 – $23.00 per hour
