Packaging Operator – Team Lead Day Shift Jobs in Gaylord, MN at Michael Foods Inc.
This position is responsible for assisting the shift supervisor in the managing of the Packaging
Department.
This position has the responsibility to comply with Safety work rules at all times as well as an
obligation to reinforce Safety as a Core Value. Ensures that all policies, procedures and activities,
related to Food Safety & Quality, are followed and complied with uniformly, in an effort to reduce
product and process variability.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Gives work direction to the packaging operators and utility people, to best organize their time
during set up, charge overs and run time to ensure that everything is done accurately, quickly,
and safely.
- Monitor each packaging line to ensure good quality product is being produced and all
appropriate codes are legible to meet company and USDA quality and labeling standards.
- Coordinates with the processors the time that the system will be ready to run, the lines that
will be running, the amount and type of product that will be run and matching and line
sterilization to meet the production requirements set by the company.
- Direct the packaging personnel in all sanitation and GMP activities to insure that company and
USDA standards are met at all times.
- Coordinate the need and arrival of packaging materials for each line insuring that all supply
needs are always meet.
- Verify that all operator down time, temperature charts and any other documentation needed is
accurate and complete before it is turned into the shift supervisor to maintain accurate records
for the company and USDA.
- Assist the supervisor in the training of all personnel and fill in at any position to meet the
production requirements set by the company.
- Communicate with co-workers at shift change to insure accurate information is transferred
between shifts regarding production, scheduling, etc.
- Prepare written reports and maintain assigned logs, records, and other documentation required
by the company and USDA
- Monitor rework inventories and coordinate rework activity to ensure product is reworked
before it becomes inedible.
- Run, clean, conduct preventive maintenance, troubleshoot extended run fillers, i.e.: Elopack
Fillers/Capers Scholle.
- Perform Sanitation procedures in accordance with department and food safety standards
(sometimes for the duration of your shift).
- Ability to navigate operating system on tablets in order to conduct required quality and
performance checks
- Follow instructions for ingredient mixing
- Ability to calculate mathematical equations, figures, and amounts to include proportions,
percentages, fractions, and ratios.
- Maintains regular and consistent attendance.
- Adhere to safe work practices, follow GMP’s, maintain sanitary conditions and ensure that
product quality is maintained. Report to management any conditions or practices that may
adversely affect food safety, food quality or personnel safety.
- Accountable for a safe and healthy workplace for everyone. Adhere to all safety policies and
procedures and incorporate safety and health in all jobs and tasks.
- Responsible for Food Safety and Food Quality of MFI products.
- May fill in for Aseptic Supervisor, as needed
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- One to three months related lead experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of
education and experience.
PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance
instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to speak effectively before groups, or employees of the organization.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers,
common fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in oral form.
- Ability to deal with problems involving one concrete variable in standardized situations.
- Ability to operate specific equipment or tools
- Skill in working with computers and experience with spreadsheet and word-processing
software.
- Familiarity with special terminology such as legal, medical, or scientific terms
- Fluency in a language other than English
