Postal Associate II

Classification Minimum Requirements:

High school diploma or equivalent and two years of relevant experience. Appropriate college course work or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.

Job Description:

Serves as the lead for daily mail processing, sorting, and delivery activities at the designated mail service location.

  • Ensure daily coverage of mail routes and timely deliveries of accountable mail
  • Ensure high quality customer service at all times; maintain excellent communications and customer relations with all departments
  • Ensure efficient rerouting of misdirected mail via directory services; maintain current knowledge of campus organizational and personnel changes
  • Provide regular feedback to supervisor on route inefficiencies, department relocations or additions, department personnel changes, and traffic considerations
  • Responsible for maintaining and finding ways to improve efficiencies in the mail delivery process; make recommendations for changes to supervisor as needed
  • Ensure daily completion of vehicle usage records; responsible for providing regular feedback concerning vehicle maintenance and upkeep

Responsible for receiving, sorting, and campus delivery of U.S. Postal Service, Amazon packages and UF departmental mail; track accountable mail using the QTrak tracking system

Perform daily count of incoming mail (both letters and packages) including internal campus mail

Assist supervisor and/or other senior mail staff in the daily operation of all mail functions;

  • Assume duties and responsibilities of supervisors in their absence including handling telephone calls and issues arising in the course of daily operations.

Responsible for maintaining current knowledge of, providing training to employees, and ensuring compliance with appropriate guidelines in the following areas:

  • Mail and package handling techniques and procedures, including departmental and university policies and procedures
  • University of Florida and U.S. Postal Service guidelines for proper handling of hazardous materials that may be received through the mail
  • State of Florida and UF traffic regulations

Develop reports, handle special projects and other duties as assigned

Valid driver's license of class required for Mail Service vehicle

NORMAL WORK SCHEDULE:

  • Normal work schedule is 6:00am – 3:00pm Monday through Friday.
  • Flexibility to adjust work schedule as needed is required to accommodate department needs to fulfill campus mail operations requirements, including occasional required Saturday work.

Expected Salary:

$19.00 to $20.00 Hourly

Required Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent and two years of relevant experience. Appropriate college course work or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's degree in appropriate area of specialization and four years of appropriate experience
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills including the ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment
