Job Summary
The Project Safety Representative (Project Safety Rep) is responsible for supporting the safe execution of electrical construction projects by ensuring compliance with company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and project-specific safety requirements. This role acts as the on-site safety resource, working closely with project management, foremen, electricians, and subcontractors to promote a strong safety culture, identify hazards, and implement corrective actions.
Essential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities
Safety Compliance & Oversight:
Monitor daily work activities to ensure compliance with company safety policies, OSHA regulations, NFPA 70E, and other applicable standards.
Conduct regular site safety inspections and audits, focusing on electrical hazards, fall protection, lockout/tagout, and other high-risk activities.
Verify that crews have proper PPE, tools, and equipment in good working condition.
Training & Communication
Facilitate or assist with site safety orientations and toolbox talks.
Communicate safety expectations to employees, subcontractors, and visitors.
Provide on-the-spot safety coaching and correction as needed.
Hazard Identification & Incident Prevention
Identify unsafe conditions and at-risk behaviors, document findings, and follow up on corrective actions.
Assist Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) and Pre-Task Planning (PTP) to ensure hazards are addressed before work begins.
Incident Response & Reporting
Respond to and assist in managing incidents, near misses, and first aid events.
Conduct preliminary incident investigations and support root cause analysis.
Maintain accurate records of inspections, incidents, and safety activities.
Collaboration & Support
Work closely with the Project Manager, Superintendent, and corporate safety team to maintain a safe jobsite.
Assist in developing and implementing site-specific safety plans.
Support subcontractor compliance with safety requirements.
Qualifications: Education, Experience, and Skills
Required:
Education & Certifications
High school diploma or GED required
OSHA 30-Hour Construction (OSHA 10 minimum)
First Aid / CPR / AED preferred
NFPA 70E and other construction safety certifications a plus
Experience
3+ years in construction safety, preferably electrical or commercial construction
Strong working knowledge of OSHA construction standards and electrical safety practices
Experience conducting site inspections, JHAs/PTPs, and incident investigations
Skills
Strong understanding of electrical hazards, PPE, fall protection, and LOTO
Ability to identify hazards and provide real-time safety coaching
Clear communicator with field crews, supervisors, and project leadership
Organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable documenting safety activities
Able to work independently on active jobsites and collaborate with project teams
Bilingual (preferred)
Associated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge
Working knowledge of OSHA construction standards and electrical safety regulations (including NFPA 70E)
Understanding of common electrical construction hazards, PPE requirements, fall protection, and lockout/tagout procedures
Knowledge of jobsite safety inspections, Job Hazard Analysis (JHA), and Pre-Task Planning (PTP) processes
Familiarity with incident reporting, near-miss tracking, and corrective action procedures
Skills
Ability to identify unsafe conditions and behaviors and implement corrective actions promptly
Strong communication skills to effectively deliver safety expectations, coaching, and toolbox talks
Solid documentation and reporting skills for inspections, incidents, and safety activities
Ability to work collaboratively with project management, field leadership, and subcontractors
Strong organizational and time-management skills in fast-paced construction environments
Abilities
Ability to maintain a visible, proactive safety presence on active electrical construction jobsites
Ability to influence safe work behaviors across all levels of the workforce

Working Environment & Conditions/Physical Requirements
Work is primarily performed on active electrical construction jobsites, including outdoor environments and unfinished structures
Exposure to varying weather conditions, noise, dust, and construction-related hazards
Regular walking, standing, climbing ladders, and navigating uneven terrain required
Ability to lift, carry, and move materials or equipment up to 50 pounds as needed
Frequent use of personal protective equipment (PPE), including hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, high-visibility vests, and fall protection
Ability to bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and work at heights or in confined spaces
Must be able to respond quickly to jobsite conditions, emergencies, and changing work environments
Extended work hours, early starts, weekends, and travel may be required based on project demands
Equipment or Machines Routinely Used in This Position
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, high-visibility vest, and fall protection equipment
Mobile devices (smartphone, tablet) for inspections, reporting, and communication
Laptop or desktop computer for documentation, reports, and safety tracking
Hand tools and basic measuring devices used for inspections (tape measure, flashlight, voltage tester)
Fall protection systems such as harnesses, lanyards, and anchor points (inspection and verification)
Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) devices and tags
Two-way radios for jobsite communication
Access equipment such as ladders, lifts, and scaffolding (for observation and inspection purposes only)
