Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, including vital signs, physical examinations, and health histories to determine care needs.
- Administer medications and injections accurately, including IV infusions and medication management following prescribed protocols.
- Perform specialized procedures such as suturing, catheterization, tube feeding, and ostomy care with precision and aseptic technique.
- Utilize electronic health record (EHR) systems like Epic, Cerner, Athenahealth, or eClinicalWorks for documentation and medical records management.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams in settings such as ICU, emergency room, outpatient clinics, hospice, or long-term care facilities to develop and implement personalized care plans.
- Provide patient education on health coaching, medication administration, pain management, and discharge planning to promote self-care and recovery.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations and infection control standards while maintaining high-quality patient care across diverse populations including pediatrics, geriatrics, behavioral health, and individuals with disabilities.
Requirements
- Valid nursing license (RN) in the relevant state or jurisdiction.
- Proven experience in critical care environments such as ICU or Level I/II trauma centers is highly desirable.
- Proficiency with EMR/EHR systems like Epic, Cerner, or Athenahealth for accurate medical documentation.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, physiology, ICD coding (ICD-9/10), CPT coding, and diagnostic evaluation techniques.
- Experience performing complex procedures including IV insertion, phlebotomy, ventilator management, and sterile processing.
- Ability to work effectively in fast-paced settings such as emergency medicine, hospital medicine, outpatient clinics or home care environments.
- Familiarity with specialized areas such as cardiology (cardiac catheterization), ophthalmology treatments (botulinum toxin), dialysis procedures, trauma medicine or hospice & palliative care is a plus.
- Excellent communication skills for triage assessments and working with patients of all ages—including children and elderly populations—while adhering to HIPAA standards.
- Certifications in Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) are required.
