Position Summary
The Store Manager is responsible for the overall success of Joyful Kitchen Company’s retail operations. This person will oversee day-to-day store performance, customer experience, merchandising, inventory management, scheduling, and operational execution. The ideal candidate is equal parts retail leader, hospitality-minded host, merchandiser, and operator. This role is ideal for someone who loves specialty retail, understands how to create an engaging in-store experience, and can balance strong customer service with the discipline of running a profitable small business.
Key Responsibilities
Store Leadership
● Lead day-to-day operations of Joyful Kitchen Company and serve as the on-site manager responsible for store performance.
Sales & Customer Experience
● Deliver an exceptional customer experience that reflects Joyful Kitchen’s brand values of warmth, hospitality, quality, and community.
● Lead by example on the sales floor by greeting customers, recommending products, and helping customers find gifts, pantry items, and kitchen solutions.
● Support sales growth by driving add-on purchases, gift purchases, seasonal sales, and repeat visits.
● Resolve customer issues with professionalism and care.
● Help create a store environment that feels welcoming, inspiring, organized, and easy to shop
Merchandising & Store Presentation
● Maintain visually appealing product displays, seasonal features, endcaps, gift displays, and promotional areas.
● Work with ownership to execute merchandising plans, seasonal resets, and in-store storytelling.
● Keep shelves stocked, displays refreshed, and the sales floor clean and organized.
● Identify opportunities to improve product placement, flow, and customer engagement.
● Support merchandising for holidays, special events, and themed promotions.
Inventory, Receiving & Product Operations
● Oversee receiving, inventory organization, stockroom management, and replenishment.
● Monitor inventory levels and communicate reorder needs to ownership.
● Help prevent inventory loss through organization, accuracy, and team accountability.
● Ensure products are tagged, stocked, rotated, and displayed correctly.
● Support physical inventory counts and cycle counts as needed.
● Maintain back-of-house systems that are organized, efficient, and scalable.
Store Operations & Systems
● Open and close the store according to established procedures.
● Ensure daily cash handling, register balancing, and POS procedures are completed accurately.
● Monitor supplies needed for store operations, packaging, cleaning, and events.
● Ensure the store is clean, safe, and operating according to all company policies and procedures.
● Help document and improve store systems, workflows, and checklists as Joyful Kitchen grows.
Events, Classes & Community Engagement
● Support the execution of cooking classes, demonstrations, tasting events, pop-ups, and community events.
● Help coordinate staffing and store readiness for special events.
● Contribute ideas for seasonal promotions, customer engagement, and store programming.
● Serve as a warm and knowledgeable representative of Joyful Kitchen in the community.
Qualifications
Required
● 1-2+ years of retail, hospitality, or customer-facing management/supervisory experience.
● Strong customer service and communication skills.
● Comfortable working on the sales floor and engaging directly with customers.
● Highly organized with strong attention to detail.
● Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced small business environment.
● Ability to work a flexible schedule, including Saturdays, holiday periods, and occasional evenings for events.
● Ability to lift boxes, stand for extended periods, and perform the physical tasks of retail operations.
Preferred
● Experience in specialty retail, home goods, kitchen retail, gourmet food, boutique retail, gift retail, or hospitality.
● Experience with merchandising, inventory management, or visual display execution.
● Experience using POS systems such as Square or Shopify.
● Interest in cooking, entertaining, gifting, or food products.
● Experience supporting events, classes, tastings, or community programming.
Success in This Role Looks Like
Within the first 6–12 months, the Store Manager will:
● Keep the store consistently clean, stocked, and visually compelling
● Improve daily operational discipline around opening/closing, receiving, and inventory
● Help drive strong seasonal sales and gift sales
● Support successful events, classes, and community engagement activities
● Become a trusted leader and face of Joyful Kitchen in the store
Compensation & Benefits
● $17/hr commensurate with experience with performance bonus opportunities
