Position Purpose/Summary
Essential Functions
- Plans, coordinates, oversees, administers, reviews activities, and consults with contractors and municipal employees engaged in departmental construction.
- Supervises and participates in collection, origination, analyses, and interpretation of data pertaining to projects and activities.
- Supervises and participates in the preparation of reports and recommendations.
- Supervises and participates in the preparation of maps, plans, renderings, sketches, models, mock-ups, and special graphic materials.
- Maintains a continuing review of departmental research and procedures/methodology.
- Conducts staff meetings and individual conferences.
- Works with departmental managers in ensuring timely project compliance and completion.
- Assist in Forestry related issues when the City Forester is absent.
- Performs related duties as required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Considerable knowledge of woodland management, park design, current forestry arborculture standards and construction methods.
- Considerable knowledge of grantsmanship and fundraising strategies including application of these methods to a municipal park department.
- Considerable knowledge of various software programs that enhance professional presentations.
- Considerable knowledge of federal, state and local laws, ordinances and regulations affecting departmental programs.
- Ability to assemble, develop, evaluate, and analyze relevant data, and to make appropriate recommendations.
- Ability to plan, assign, supervise and review the work of technical staff and consultants.
- Ability to express oneself clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in landscape architecture, with a Master’s degree preferred.
- Minimum six years of professional, supervisory and technical work in the field.
