About Us:

Jefferson Electric is a leading provider of solar|battery projects and electrical solutions, specializing in engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) of commercial & industrial projects. Our mission is to deliver reliable, sustainable, and cost-effective energy & electrical solutions to businesses, communities, and governments nationwide. We are looking for someone with grit, hustle and the attention to detail to lead our electrical estimation efforts.

Position Summary:

The Solar Site Survey & Preconstruction Specialist is responsible for conducting detailed site surveys and translating field data into accurate, buildable solar project designs. This role plays a critical part in ensuring engineering accuracy, constructability, and cost alignment by collecting field data, identifying constraints, and producing single-line diagrams (SLDs), preliminary layouts, and bills of materials (BOMs).

The ideal candidate combines field experience, technical understanding, and strong organizational skills to bridge the gap between Preconstruction, Engineering, and Field Operations.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Field Site Surveys & Data Collection

  • Perform detailed site surveys for commercial and industrial solar projects (rooftop and ground-mount).
  • Capture accurate measurements of:
  • Roof dimensions, pitch, obstructions, and structural layout
  • Electrical infrastructure (MSP, gear, transformers, tie-in points)
  • Equipment locations, trench paths, and access points
  • Document sites using photos, videos, and markups for engineering and estimating teams.
  • Identify site constraints, risks, and constructability considerations early.

Preconstruction & Design Support

  • Develop preliminary system layouts and install strategies based on field conditions.
  • Generate Single-Line Diagrams (SLDs) aligned with project requirements and NEC standards.
  • Build Bills of Materials (BOMs) for accurate estimating and procurement planning.
  • Provide input on system sizing, equipment placement, and routing feasibility.
  • Ensure alignment between survey findings, design assumptions, and project scope.

Constructability & Field Alignment

  • Evaluate projects from a field execution perspective to ensure designs are buildable and efficient.
  • Identify potential installation challenges and propose solutions before construction begins.
  • Collaborate with Solar Foremen, AC Leads, and Mechanical Leads to validate the install approach.
  • Contribute to development of project-specific “game plans” for construction execution.

Documentation & Systems

  • Upload and organize survey data, reports, and documentation within JobTread or internal systems.
  • Maintain clear, detailed, and standardized survey reports.
  • Ensure all documentation is complete, accurate, and easily transferable to Engineering and PM teams.

Coordination & Communication

  • Coordinate site access with customers, developers, and GCs.
  • Communicate findings clearly to Preconstruction, Engineering, and Operations teams.
  • Participate in internal handoff meetings to ensure alignment from survey → design → construction when requested.

Required Qualifications & Skills:

  • 3–5+ years experience in solar, electrical, or construction field roles
  • Strong understanding of C&I solar systems (mechanical, DC, and AC components)
  • Experience reading and interpreting:
  • Electrical one-lines
  • Site plans and layouts
  • Ability to develop or assist with SLDs and system design concepts
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently in field environments
  • Strong communication skills across technical and non-technical teams

Preferred Qualifications & Skills:

  • Experience creating SLDs and BOMs for solar projects
  • NABCEP certification (Associate or PVIP)
  • Electrical background (Journeyman or equivalent experience)
  • Experience with design tools (AutoCAD, Helioscope, Aurora, or similar)
  • Drone operation experience for site documentation
  • Familiarity with NEC (Articles 690, 705)

Physical & Travel Requirements:

  • Ability to access rooftops, climb ladders, and walk large job sites
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying conditions
  • Regular regional travel required; occasional overnight travel as needed

This role demonstrates Jefferson Energy’s values by:

  • Partnership: Aligning Preconstruction, Engineering, and Field teams
  • Transparency: Clearly communicating risks and constraints early
  • Impact: Improving project accuracy, reducing rework, and increasing efficiency
