Supervisor Patient Access

Lead a team that creates exceptional first impressions while supporting the financial health of the organization. As the Patient Access Supervisor, you will oversee daily front end revenue cycle operations, ensuring accurate registration, scheduling, insurance verification, point of service collections, and outstanding customer service across the patient access team.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises daily Patient Access functions (ED, inpatient, outpatient, and/or clinic access as applicable)
  • Ensures timely and accurate patient registration and insurance verification
  • Monitors work queues, staffing levels, and throughput to meet volume demands
  • Identifies and resolves workflow issues impacting patient flow or revenue cycle performance
  • Participates in after-hours/on-call coverage as needed
  • Ensures compliance with point-of-service collections policies
  • Monitors and improves key metrics:
  • Registration accuracy and productivity standards
  • Insurance verification rates
  • Authorization compliance
  • POS collections
  • Support denial reduction efforts through regular review of registration related denials
  • Ensures adherence to HIPPA/privacy standards, CMS and payer regulations, EMTALA requirements (for ED settings) and internal audit controls and cash handling procedures
  • Maintains strong internal controls for cash/safe handling and reconciliation
  • Participates in audits, investigations, and corrective action plans
  • Supervises, coaches, and develops Patient Access team members
  • Conducts hiring and onboarding, performance valuations/check-ins, attendance and corrective action management, and initiates and oversees any performance plans
  • Provides ongoing education on policies, systems, and regulatory updates
  • Monitors and tracks ongoing Midas events
  • Fosters a culture of accountability, excellence, and teamwork
  • Promotes employee engagement and high morale with daily rounding, staff development activities and participates in Press Ganey preparations, follow up, and action planning
  • Promotes a patient-centered approach across all interactions
  • Addresses escalated patient concerns professionally and promptly
  • Ensures staff demonstrate empathy, professionalism, and clear communication
  • Analyzes data and trends to drive continuous improvement initiatives
  • Maintains departmental readiness for downtime and mass casualty incident procedures
  • Develops and maintains standard work and workflows
  • Produces reports on productivity, quality, and financial outcomes
  • Collaborates with leadership on strategic initiatives and technology implementations

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree required; relevant certification or 2 years related experience may be accepted in lieu of an Associate’s degree
  • Continuing education and certification following hire strongly encouraged
  • Minimum 2-4 years’ patient registration experience required in addition to education requirement
  • Epic EMR experience in front end Revenue Cycle preferred
  • Familiarity with current commercial and government insurance programs and payment methodologies
  • Familiar with current federal and state regulatory requirements, including HIPAA, EMTALA, and the No Surprises Act
