About The Role
As a Lead Product Designer within Target’s Emerging Experiences team, you will be instrumental in shaping the future of Target’s digital and physical guest experiences. This role places you at the forefront of innovation, where you will conceptualize, design, and prototype forward-thinking solutions that enhance engagement, usability, and delight across various touchpoints. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams—including product managers, engineers, brand strategists, and store operations—to explore new technologies and guest journeys. Your work will involve creating compelling storytelling and interactive prototypes that communicate future possibilities, helping teams align around shared visions and strategic goals. This position offers a unique opportunity to influence how Target innovates and delivers memorable experiences that resonate emotionally with guests while supporting business growth. You will leverage your creative and technical expertise to test assumptions, express ideas clearly, and deliver high-quality, accessible designs that prioritize human-centered principles. The role is ideal for a strategic thinker passionate about inclusive design, emerging technologies, and crafting joyful experiences at scale. Depending on the company's needs, this position can be remote or hybrid, offering flexibility to work from home or onsite at Target locations.
Qualifications
- 7+ years of experience as a product designer with a strong portfolio demonstrating successful design projects
- Proficiency in product design and prototyping tools such as Figma, Principle, Framer, Cursor, or similar
- Experience participating in design sprints, early-stage concepting, or innovation labs
- Advanced skills in strategic problem-solving, systems thinking, and cross-functional collaboration
- Ability to balance creative exploration with practical delivery to meet project goals
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to leverage data and insights to inform design decisions
- Exceptional communication and storytelling abilities to effectively present ideas and influence stakeholders
- Experience working in ambiguous environments and managing complex challenges
- Passion for inclusive design principles and creating scalable, purposeful experiences
Responsibilities
- Participate in cross-functional design sprints to explore innovative guest experiences and emerging technologies
- Contribute to the development of future-state customer journeys, conceptual models, and visual storytelling
- Facilitate collaboration across multiple teams, including product, engineering, and brand, to align on design goals
- Create comprehensive design deliverables such as wireframes, user flows, UI designs, and prototypes that represent each phase of the design process
- Guide and mentor junior designers, fostering a culture of curiosity, inclusivity, and high-quality craftsmanship
- Ensure all design work adheres to accessibility standards and best practices in user research, information architecture, interaction, and visual design
- Support the integration of user insights and data to refine designs and enhance user satisfaction
- Contribute to ongoing innovation initiatives, helping to shape the future of Target’s digital touchpoints
