Vice President of Energy Retail – Job DescriptionPosition Summary

The Vice President of Energy Retail is responsible for leading the company’s retail energy business, including electricity and/or natural gas sales to residential, commercial, and industrial customers. This role drives customer acquisition, pricing strategy, product development, and profitability while ensuring regulatory compliance and exceptional customer experience.

Key ResponsibilitiesRetail Strategy & Business Leadership

  • Define and execute the retail energy strategy aligned with corporate objectives
  • Drive growth across customer segments (residential, SMB, C&I)
  • Identify new market opportunities, including deregulated markets and product expansion

Sales & Customer Acquisition

  • Oversee sales channels, including direct sales, brokers, aggregators, and digital platforms
  • Develop customer acquisition and retention strategies
  • Optimize channel performance and conversion rates

Pricing & Product Management

  • Develop competitive pricing strategies based on market conditions and risk tolerance
  • Design and manage retail energy products (fixed, variable, green energy, bundled offerings)
  • Align pricing with wholesale market dynamics and hedging strategies

Customer Experience & Operations

  • Ensure high-quality customer service, billing, and account management processes
  • Improve customer satisfaction, retention, and lifetime value
  • Oversee customer operations, including onboarding, servicing, and issue resolution

Risk Management & Regulatory Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with energy market regulations (e.g., state PUCs, FERC where applicable)
  • Collaborate with trading and risk teams to manage exposure and hedging strategies
  • Monitor credit risk, churn risk, and market volatility impacts

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with Energy Trading, Risk, Finance, Marketing, and IT teams
  • Align retail strategies with wholesale procurement and portfolio management
  • Support digital transformation initiatives (CRM, billing systems, analytics platforms)

Team Leadership & Development

  • Lead and develop high-performing retail, sales, and operations teams
  • Establish performance goals and accountability frameworks
  • Foster a customer-centric and results-driven culture

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Economics, Energy Management, or related field (MBA preferred)
  • 12–15+ years of experience in energy retail, utilities, or competitive energy markets
  • Strong knowledge of deregulated energy markets and retail pricing models
  • Experience managing P&L and driving revenue growth
  • Deep understanding of customer acquisition strategies and channel management
  • Proven leadership experience in a complex, regulated environment
