THE POSITION
As a Corrections Utility Plant Operator with the Department of Corrections, you will be part of a team that keeps essential systems functioning at SCI Frackville. This role provides meaningful work where technical skill and steady focus are valued. You will help maintain safe working conditions and dependable boiler plant operations. Your contribution supports both staff and facility needs every day.
DESCRIPTION OF WORK
This position focuses on operating, maintaining, and repairing boiler plant systems while overseeing an inmate work crew. As a Corrections Utility Plant Operator, you will perform the following duties:
Boiler Operation: Operate and maintain high pressure boilers and monitor system readings
Equipment Maintenance: Perform routine and non routine service on pumps, fans, and control systems
Water Testing: Test boiler water chemistry and maintain accurate logs and supply inventories
Crew Oversight: Direct inmate workers and maintain safety, security, and tool control
Facility Support: Complete documentation, communicate concerns, and assist with daily plant tasks
Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment
- Work schedule will be determined at time of hire
Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $47,925 (before taxes).- This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Three years of experience in the operation, maintenance, and repair of a steam or hot water generating plant, or a steam and electric generating plant; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Additional Requirements:
- Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.

- You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
