FOOD SERVICE HELPER – 10 months/37.5 hours /6:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:
This work involves responsibility for assisting in the routine preparation and servicing of meals, and for the cleaning of kitchen equipment. The work is performed under the direct supervision of a higher level employee in the food service staff. The incumbent does related work as required.

– Have a basic understanding of kitchen tools and equipment
– Have basic knowledge of recipe production and processes
– Ability to take direction from supervisors
– Ability to follow written direction(recipes)
– A willingness and ability to adapt to changing work environments
– Have a basic understanding of sanitation procedure
– The ability to be efficient with time
– Prepare all ready to eat items (Salads, sandwiches, fruits, vegetables, etc.)
– Work on serving line or cash register as needed
– Take daily temperatures of coolers/freezers
– The ability to be on your feet in a physical manner for up to eight hours a day
– Cleans vegetables and heats precooked meals;
– Cleans dish and linen closets;
– Washes dishes by hand or machine;
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:
Working knowledge of the proper methods of serving food; working knowledge of all types of diets; working knowledge of cleaning methods and the use of cleaning materials and equipment; ability to follow oral and written directions; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
