We are seeking an experienced, motivated, and highly organized Lead Dental Assistant to join our growing dental practice. The ideal candidate will be responsible for overseeing the clinical team, ensuring efficient day-to-day operations, maintaining high standards of patient care, and supporting the doctor during a wide range of dental procedures.

This role requires strong leadership skills, excellent clinical knowledge, and the ability to train, mentor, and hold team members accountable while maintaining a positive and professional work environment.

ResponsibilitiesClinical Leadership

  • Lead and supervise all dental assistants to ensure smooth daily operations.
  • Train and onboard new clinical team members.
  • Monitor clinical performance and maintain consistency in office protocols and standards.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for assistants regarding clinical questions and workflow issues.
  • Assist in creating and implementing systems to improve efficiency and patient experience.

Chairside Assisting

  • Provide chairside assistance during general, cosmetic, restorative, crown and bridge, implant, endodontic, and surgical procedures.
  • Prepare treatment rooms and ensure proper setup for all scheduled procedures.
  • Anticipate doctor needs during treatment and maintain efficient clinical flow.
  • Take digital radiographs and intraoral photographs.
  • Utilize digital scanners and other dental technology as needed.

Patient Care

  • Welcome patients and help create a positive treatment experience.
  • Review medical histories and update patient records.
  • Educate patients on treatment plans, post-operative instructions, and oral hygiene.
  • Ensure all patient information is documented accurately and confidentially.

Inventory & Equipment Management

  • Manage ordering and inventory of dental supplies and materials.
  • Monitor supply levels and prevent shortages.
  • Coordinate maintenance and troubleshooting of dental equipment.
  • Ensure operatories remain fully stocked and organized.

Compliance & Sterilization

  • Oversee sterilization procedures and infection control protocols.
  • Ensure OSHA, CDC, and HIPAA compliance throughout the practice.
  • Maintain sterilization logs and safety documentation.
  • Conduct regular audits to ensure clinical standards are being followed.

Scheduling & Team Support

  • Work closely with the front desk to maintain efficient scheduling and patient flow.
  • Assist in coordinating doctor and assistant schedules when necessary.
  • Support the office manager and doctor in achieving practice goals.
  • Foster a positive, team-oriented culture focused on excellent patient care.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of dental assisting experience.
  • Prior leadership or lead dental assistant experience preferred.
  • Current New York State Dental Assisting credentials and radiology certification.
  • Proficiency with Open Dental, or similar dental software preferred.
  • Experience with digital radiography, intraoral scanning, and modern dental technology.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA, HIPAA, and infection control regulations.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to multitask and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
