Overview
SolidWorks Drafter / Designer – Steel Windows & Doors Jobs in Vista, CA at Steel Traditions
Steel Traditions designs and manufactures premium steel windows and doors for custom residential projects. We are looking for a highly capable SolidWorks Drafter / Designer to help create, maintain, and improve the drawing and template systems that support our products and our shop.
This is not a generic drafting role. We need someone who is strong in SolidWorks, understands manufacturing, and can produce clear, stable, production-ready drawings that others can actually use. The right person will help us build cleaner templates, improve revision control, support the shop, and reduce errors and rework.
What you’ll do
- Create and revise SolidWorks parts, assemblies, and production drawings for custom steel window and door systems
- Build and maintain reusable templates that can be adapted across multiple configurations and projects
- Produce accurate shop drawings, cut lists, BOMs, and related technical documentation
- Organize and maintain CAD files, templates, and revision history in a clean and accessible structure
- Work closely with fabrication, project management, and leadership to make sure drawings are practical and manufacturable
- Support the shop by clarifying details, correcting drawing issues, and improving outputs as real-world issues are discovered
- Help simplify overbuilt or overly complicated models so files are stable, editable, and usable by the team
- Participate in continuous improvement of our products, drafting standards, and documentation systems
What we’re looking for
- Strong SolidWorks experience in a manufacturing environment
- Experience producing production-ready mechanical drawings, assemblies, BOMs, and cut lists
- Ability to build files and templates that are clear, stable, editable, and maintainable
- Understanding of manufacturability, fabrication constraints, and practical shop support
- Strong attention to detail, revision control, and file discipline
- Ability to work cross-functionally with engineers, project managers, and shop personnel
- Good judgment, follow-through, and communication
Strongly preferred
- Experience with weldments, steel assemblies, or custom fabricated products
- Experience supporting a fabrication shop or manufacturing floor
- Experience cleaning up or improving existing CAD/template systems
- Experience with windows, doors, architectural metalwork, or closely related products
What success looks like
- Drawings are accurate, clear, and trusted by the shop
- Templates are reusable and not fragile
- Files are organized and accessible to the company, not dependent on one person
- Rework, confusion, and drawing-related issues are reduced
- Product improvements are translated into real, usable documentation
Schedule
- Monday to Friday 8:00am start
- 8-hour shift
- In person in Vista, CA
