Youth Outdoor Nature Teacher Jobs in Austin at Natureversity Outdoor School

Natureversity is looking for motivated, experienced, outgoing, competent, and organized applicants to teach year round at our environmental education youth nature programs. You will get to spend each day outdoors teaching classes and programs that involve nature at the core.

Responsibilities:

  • Passion and love for teaching and working with children ages 5 – 12
  • Work with a team of teachers and program directors to design and implement exciting outdoor nature programs for kids
  • Manage 8 children alone or with your team of 2 other instructors, not to exceed 24 children total at once, in the outdoors day to day, week to week, month to month
  • Interact with parents week to week in person at drop off/pick up
  • Facilitate nature inspired games, activities, challenges and projects
  • Maintain an organized, creative, self-directed, energetic, motivated, positive, respectful, responsible, flexible, punctual and professional attitude and work ethic
  • Interest in encouraging children to be playful, creative and passionate about learning in the outdoors
  • Provide high quality of education in the outdoors focusing on a wide variety of nature skills
  • Help maintain a safe and functional outdoor learning environment
  • Assist with local special events and outreach opportunities for the school
  • Instruct during summer months (Jun-Aug)

Requirements:

  • Natural interest in learning and teaching outdoor skills
  • Ability to play with campers and get involved in activities
  • Ability to lift 40 lbs
  • Convenient access to commute around the Austin & Central Texas area
  • CPR & Basic First Aid
  • Must have excellent oral communication abilities & skills

Preferred Skills:

  • Wisdom of local central Texas ecology
  • Plants, trees, mammals, insects, birds, amphibians, reptiles, soils, minerals, rocks, animal tracks, weather and local hazards
  • Wisdom of survival skills
  • Knife carving with wood
  • Fire starting
  • Shelter building
  • Water purification
  • Wild edible Plants
  • Outdoor Navigation Skills
  • Traditional Archery Skills
  • Making wooden bows & arrows
  • Shooting traditional wooden bows & arrows
  • Wilderness First Aid or Wilderness First Responder
  • Lifeguard Training
  • Experience in Waldorf, Head Waters, Reggio or Montessori is a plus
  • Experience from Primitive Pursuits, Wilderness Awareness School, Alderleaf, Tracker School, Trackers NW, Whole Earth Nature School, Twin Eagles, etc
  • Interests in Nature, Journaling, Rock Climbing, Arts & Crafts, Permaculture & Gardening, Dancing, Singing, Playing Guitar or any other Instrument, Theatre, Yoga, Cooking, Making Soap or Candles, Basket Weaving, Pottery, Blacksmithing, Leatherworking, Herbal Remedies, Leadership Skills

Salary/Pay

  • Average of 40 hours each week – $18/hour or $750/wk

Job Types: Temporary, Internship, Contract, Part-time

Pay: $16.00 – $18.00 per hour
