In a nutshell.
The role of the Locator is to allow drill operators to precisely monitor the location, depth, and angle of the drill head as it moves through different types of soil conditions underground without causing damage to other existing utilities.
Here is some of what you will be doing.
- Using specialized equipment (electromagnetic locators or ground penetrating radar) to detect and mark buried telecom lines with paint or flags.
- Operate locator to direct and guide directional boring machine and drill operator for underground utility placement.
- Will interpret drawings, GIS data, and as – built plans to verify utility locations.
- Will follow safety regulations and industry standards to prevent damage to critical communication infrastructure.
- Will interact with Contractors and heavy equipment operators about underground utilities to avoid accidental cuts or breaks.
- Load, unload materials, machinery and tools according to project plans and specifications.
- Dig ditches/trenches, back fill excavations using picks, shovels and other tools
- Must wear required uniforms and PPE at all times.
- Ad hoc- projects, other duties assigned.
This is what we need from a great candidate.
- Prior experience as a Locator.
- Vocational training or certification is preferred.
- 1-2 year previous experience with locating equipment.
- Class A Commercial Driver’s License with clean driving record.
- Ability to work flexible hours including evenings or weekends based on project and business need.
Your day-to-day Terrain.
This position will be exposed to outdoor elements to include but not limited to extreme heat and cold temperatures, humidity, rain, snow, sleet, wind, uneven terrain, road noise and traffic. Will routinely work around heavy equipment and tools with moving mechanical parts.

Pay: $23.00 – $30.00 per hour
